The Yankees Are Back!

The Yankees Are Back!

Here we are in the postseason again and we welcome a familiar supporter (or foe, depends on how you look at it) – the New York Yankees.  After inflowing their .5 billion palace and spending millions in the off-season, the Yankees captured the American League East title and will play the Minnesota Twins in their opening playoff series.

The Yankees will start C.C. Sabathia in the initially game.  He, along with A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira, made New York the American League front-runner through much of the regular season.  They lead both leagues with 103 wins and had the American League’s largest run differential at +162.

New York is also the favorite to win the World Series.  They swept 7 games against the Minnesota Twins during the regular season, and since the Twins had to scrap and battle just to get to the playoffs, it is reasonable to expect them to run out of gas against New York.

The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels series will be very entertaining.  The Red Sox have owned the Angels in the postseason lately.  Both teams have very excellent offenses, but if I had to wager, then I would bet on the Sox winning.  That would setup a Yankees-Red Sox American League Finals.

Boston won the initially 8 regular season games against New York, but then the Yankees won 8 of the last 9.  It was certainly an all-or-nothing series.  But New York has made it to the playoffs comfortably while Boston merely limped in.  Although I would be pulling for the Red Sox, I would have a hard time betting against the New York Yankees.
